Garbage Disposal: The Proper Waste Management

We must understand and put good waste management into practice. It is impossible to overestimate the significance of segregation. By being conscious of proper trash segregation and management, reusing and recycling products, and recovering waste for composting, we can limit the quantity of garbage we produce.

The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (Republic Act 9003)

"systematic administration of activities which provide for segregation at source, segregated transportation, storage, transfer, processing, treatment, and disposal of solid waste and all other waste management activities which do not harm the environment"

Biodegradable

  • Abiotic elements such as oxygen, temperature, and ultraviolet light, as well as natural organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and microbes, breakdown biodegradable wastes.
  • Wet paper, food trash, fruit and vegetable peelings, leaves, woods, and flowers.

Non-biodegradable

  • Non-biodegradable trash is described as a substance that does not breakdown or dissolve naturally and is a pollutant.
  • paints, chemicals, bulbs, cable wires, batteries, non-biodegradable plastics

Recyclable

  • These are non-biodegradable waste that can be recycled or reused again.
  • Paper, plastic bottles, metal, glass

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle

In addition, we can sort our recyclables into four categories: "Plastics, Glass, Metals, and Paper." We can take it to our local MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities).
